About Judith
Judith has been in a fundraising capacity of some sort since 1983. She has worked at four colleges and universities — University of Louisville, Defiance College, University of Toledo, and Kent State University — and one nonprofit, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. Her experience at those five nonprofits include: recruiting and working with volunteers to assist in fundraising efforts; stewardship and donor relations; annual fund phonathons with selected volunteers; annual fund mailings; development of a foundation and corporations relations office requiring substantial donor acquisition and extensive grant writing / proposal development of all types. She has worked on a limited basis with special events — the foundation of the fundraising pyramid — and with planned giving donors - the peak of the donor pyramid. Finally, she has extensive experience in the field of databases, including Raiser's Choice and Banner.

In 1996, she began her own consulting business, JSM CONSULTING GROUP, LTD., and joined Linda Lysakowski to create a training company — CAPITAL VENTURE — in 1999. Together and singularly, Judith and Linda provided training at a number of venues: national, regional and local conferences of the Association of Fundraising Professional (AFP); workshops at the Cleveland Regional Foundation Center; local workshops for area nonprofits sponsored by both the Lucas County and Stark County Public Libraries; and state-wide conferences for the Independent Colleges Association in Ohio.

To name a few successes, Judith was invited with Linda to train staff at American University in Cairo, Egypt in preparation for their capital campaign. She also received a $300,000 contract from the Gill Foundation in Colorado to work in fourteen states with community organizations that provide services to the gay community. Finally, the State of Ohio awarded JSM a contract to work in the area of board development and fundraising planning with nine community action agencies throughout the state of Ohio.
